How Reiki can help animals heal
Reiki is a powerful tool for emotional healing following trauma, abuse, neglect, fear and trust issues, reaching deeply into even the most damaged spirits.
For high-strung or nervous animals, Reiki induces deep relaxation and stress-reduction and over time, can reduce the tendency toward nervousness. Reiki can accelerate healing after surgery or illness. It complements both conventional and alternative therapies and can enhance their actions and lessen their side effects. Finally, for a dying animal and his people, Reiki provides compassionate support that can make the transition more peaceful for all concerned.
Why Reiki is ideal for healing animals
Although Reiki traditionally has been used primarily for humans, it has many qualities that make it an ideal complementary therapy for animals. First and foremost, it is gentle, painless, non-invasive and stress-free for animals. Reiki heals at all levels of an animal’s being: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. It is one of only a few therapies that bring no harm to any living thing – plant or animal – to produce its healing properties. It goes to those issues most in need of healing, even those unknown to the practitioner.
Reiki is always safe and comfortable for both animal and healer. It can be given at a distance and adapted to any problem that affects animals, so it can be used under any circumstances. There is virtually no problem or circumstance that cannot be treated effectively with Reiki.
Although it is powerful and always goes to the source of health problems, Reiki can do no harm to the recipient or the practitioner. Reiki is a simple healing method that can heal complex problems. There is a deep sense of gratitude on both sides after a treatment.
Creating a powerful healing partnership
With Reiki, animals do not have to be confined or restrained to be treated. The Reiki practitioner works with the animal to determine how the treatment will be given. The animal retains a large of degree of control over his own process of healing, including how much Reiki he will take and under what circumstances, so that he becomes an active and willing partner in the healing process.

When we fostered Mimms on 17th August 2009, she was a very anxious and insecure 15 month old Springer Spaniel.
During our initial introduction I kneeled down to her level and gently stroked her allowing my Reiki to flow, she responded, though tentatively. Normally I take my time when offering Reiki to animals as they are very sensitive to the Reiki energy and often like to take their time deciding whether or not they are ready to accept the energy.
Mimms was so desperate for reassurance she laid down, nearly immediately under my hands and fell asleep. Her foster mum, commented that this was the opposite the hyperactive behaviour Mimms had been displaying. Anxious behaviour is very common for dog’s that are going through the re-homing process.
We have since adopted Mimms and she has settled down wonderfully. She is a happy, cooperative, calm dog, who receives Reiki on a daily basis, and loves it!
