What is Reiki ?

Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) means ‘Universal Life Force Energy, the vital energy around and within all living things.

Reiki is a simple and safe healing technique which can bring inner peace and harmony to those seeking it. Reiki literally has the power to transform lives.

How Can Reiki Help ?

  • Reiki flows to the areas of need. This gentle therapy soothes pain and encourages the body to naturally restore its own healthy balance and heal itself.
  • Reiki is deeply relaxing and can reduce stress, induce relaxation and improve sleep.
  • Reiki can assist the healing process after operations or injuries.
  • During terminal illness Reiki can be of great benefit enhancing a recipient’s quality of life and giving a sense of peace and acceptance during the time remaining.

Reiki does not claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe. It is a natural therapy that supports all forms of treatment both orthodox and complementary and adapts to the natural needs of the recipient.

Who can benefit from Reiki?

Sick and healthy babies, children and adults of all ages can benefit from a Reiki treatment.

Animals enjoy the Reiki touch, particularly horses, dogs, cats, rabbits and birds.

What happens during a Reiki treatment?

On your first visit, the Reiki Practitioner will carry out an initial assessment to establish your present and past health and lifestyle.

Receiving a Reiki treatment from a practitioner is a simple process. The recipient lies, fully clothed on a couch and relaxes. Alternatively, the treatment can be carried out whilst sitting on a chair. It is essential for the client to feel warm and relaxed and priority is given to maximising comfort.

During a treatment the Practitioner’s hands are laid on or just above the body in a sequence of positions. It is during this process that the recipient will sense a feeling of deep relaxation and calm, which can remain with them for some time after their treatment.

A one hour Reiki treatment can be tailored to each individual’s requirements. A course of treatments may be recommended, depending on your body’s needs.

This natural healing art, Reiki evolved in Japan from the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usul (d 1926).

After many years of study, research and meditation, Dr Usui developed this healing system from ancient teachings; he then spent the rest of his life practising and teaching Reiki.

Reiki continues to be taught by Reiki Masters who have trained in the tradition passed down from Master to student.

Whilst spiritual by nature, Reiki is not attached to any cult or religion, therefore, anyone can receive or learn to give a Reiki treatment.
